Session 5 Track 2: Working with Patients in Clinical Trials: Input, Engagement, and Privacy

The goal of this session is to continue an earlier conversation about including patients in the work of medical affairs, with a special focus on how to incorporate the voice of study participants in within medical writing activities. A key consideration will be the potential for including patients in study design. The patient journey, patient experience, or patient-reported outcomes may all play a role in study design and reporting. The importance of balancing inclusion with privacy and protecting patients’ personal information will be discussed, as may the use of lay summaries, plain language and infographics to reach various audiences.
Learning Objective : At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:
- Identify opportunities for including the patient voice in medical writing activities
- Discuss how to balance privacy concerns with inclusion
- Describe various approaches to communicating effectively with different audiences
