Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance
President’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to Global Health
In 2000, a new kind of global health organisation was born. Launched at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, this new alliance sought to protect the most vulnerable children in the world from preventable infectious disease.
In two decades, its mission to save lives, reduce poverty and protect the world against the threat of epidemics has led it to help vaccinate more than 760 million children in the world’s poorest countries and prevent more than 13 million deaths. This is the story of how that organisation, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, came to be.
