Objectives

To sort out and analyze the causes of disputes in medical damage cases related with glucocorticoids from 2010 to 2020, so as to provide references for rational use of glucocorticoids in clinical practice.

Method

Glucocorticoid and specific drug name were used as the key word to search on China Judgements Online, Excel2019 was used to sort out the basic information of the cases and SPSS21.0 was used to analyse results.

Results

A total of 533 cases were retrieved and 88 cases were included in the analysis. The number of glucocorticoid-related disputes peaked in 2014 and the most common culpability case was failure to tell patients about side effects or adverse reactions which covered 24 cases, the median compensation amount was 106495.55 yuan. The median compensation amount of 23 cases which were due to improper dosage or access was 191830.00 yuan, in addition, 136436.08 yuan was judged to compensate for 19 cases which were due to failure to carefully observe side effects or secondary reactions after glucocorticoids were used and 132619.62 yuan for 11 cases which were due to improper indication or use in patients with contraindication.

Conclusion

Pharmacists and doctors should pay attention to the property of drug dosage and treatment period, carry out patients follow-up and pharmaceutical care among outpatients and inpatients, deal preventable adverse effects such as osteoporosis and take notice of indication and contraindication of glucocorticoids, so as to reduce disputes related with glucocorticoids and optimize rational use of this kind of drugs.
