Objectives

The objective of this poster is to describe a patient centric mobile platform designed to empower patients with easy access to study related information, by implementing consumer health care’s approach of “patient-centricity”

Method

We reviewed the challenges of how clinical trials are getting more complex, expensive, and how to address the challenge of patient engagement. We developed a mobile platform to engage patients during study conduct with a goal to improve compliance and retention.

Results

The preliminary results of several implementations of the patient engagement mobile app technology early in clinical trials indicates patients feel empowered, motivated about the role in clinical trials. Ease of access to information in real time was important to patients to better support their journey. We provide insights about the considerations how to deploy such platform, the challenges and lessons learned from different implementations.

Conclusion

Establishing a patient engagement mobile platform can deliver benefits for patients but requires insights about their journey in participating in clinical trials. Mobile technologies are becoming increasingly significant in the engagement and support to patients. Success depends on a scalable and configurable platform, in addition to a robust end to end deployment framework to meet every study needs and design. Listening to customers and keeping patients in mind are keys to any implementation and having a digital strategy is necessary to enable more effective approaches to drug development.
