Academic Credit

DIA and Rutgers School of Health Related Professions Biopharma Educational Initiative Collaboration

DIA    Rutgers School of Health Related Professions

The Drug Information Association (DIA) and The Rutgers School of Health Related Professions Biopharma Educational Initiative (Rutgers-SHRP-BEI) are partnering to offer learners a unique opportunity to earn academic credits and continuing education credits simultaneously. The academic credits would be awarded toward either a Certificate in Drug Safety or a MS Degree in Clinical Trial Sciences at Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences, School of Allied Health Professions Biopharma group. Rutgers has developed an online companion course, which when taken together with the DIA’s Drug Safety eLearning continuing education program, will be commensurate with a three credit academic course.

Individuals can select the approach which best fits their goal. Learners may register for DIA’s Drug Safety eLearning Program, consisting of six overview modules with assessments, and earn up to 21.75 of continuing education credits. The Drug Safety eLearning Program modules include:

Module 1: Introduction to Drug Safety
Module 2: Drug Safety Regulatory Requirements
Module 3: Premarketing Clinical Trial Safety
Module 4: Postmarketing Safety Management
Module 5: Basics of Signal Detection and Pharmacoepidemiology
Module 6: Safety Audits and Inspections

At the conclusion of each module, the learner will receive a certificate which when submitted to the Rutgers Biopharma Educational Initiative gives the individual access to the corresponding online module in the companion course. Learners may enroll in the DIA Drug Safety eLearning Program prior to, or in conjunction with the Rutgers Drug Safety Companion course, OR enroll into the Certificate or Master’s program first through the Rutgers Biopharma Educational Initiative. The Companion Course, which is offered every semester, expands on the content covered in the Drug Safety eLearning Program and includes additional presentations, discussions, assignments and a final assessment.

How Do I Enroll?

There are three ways to enroll:

  1. Register for the Drug Safety eLearning Program through the DIA website, and upon successful completion, receive up to 21.75 continuing education credits.  You may then present your certificates of completion along with a copy of your transcript from your highest degree and apply for entrance into the Rutgers, Biopharma Educational Initiative, Certificate in Drug Safety or Master of Science in Clinical Trial Sciences.  After successful completion of the companion course, you will be awarded 3 academic credits toward your degree.

  2. Students may also register for both the Drug Safety eLearning Program and the Rutgers Companion Course concurrently.

  3. Students who are already enrolled in the Rutgers, Biopharma Educational Initiative, Certificate in Drug Safety or Masters program may elect to register for the Drug Safety eLearning Program with the Companion Course in place of another course.
