Health-related data on Japanese patients is kept in various databases, such as maternity health record books in accordance with the Maternal and Child Health Act; information on school-based medical checkups in accordance with the School Health and Safety Act; medical fee claims, drug dispensing information, information at the time of admission to a nursing home, etc. This life-long data is collected individually and is not used effectively. However, if a Medical Care ID is introduced, individual databases could be connected and checked together. Connecting medical care information with information on the time of birth, information during the period of schooling, and information on nursing care is expected to have high industrial value in such areas as understanding intractable diseases, exploratory research on drug discovery seeds, nursing care responses to an aging society, etc., in addition to the promotion of individual good health.
