DIA Annual Meeting to Highlight Patient Voice in Health Care Product Development Lifecycle
2015 DIA Patient Advocate Fellowship Program Infuses Patient Perspective to Strengthen Therapeutic Creation and Health Care Delivery
Patient advocates are increasingly influencing all stages of the drug development and regulatory process, and both industry and government are establishing and expanding patient engagement programs.
At the DIA 2015 51st Annual Meeting, to be held June 14 to 18 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, 20 patient advocates, chosen through a competitive process, will have opportunities to develop, strengthen, and support collaborations with policymakers, industry, academia, and health professionals. Patient fellows will network and learn from experts from around the world, and participate in the process of bringing safe and effective therapies to market.
“Empowering patient advocates and making sure that their voices are heard is an important part of DIA’s mission,” said Barbara Lopez Kunz, DIA’s global chief executive. “Through our Patient Advocate Fellowship Program, DIA connects patient advocates with individuals from every facet of the lifecycle management process, allowing the advocates to learn more about the process and to develop effective strategies for sharing their critical insights and knowledge with individuals working across health care product development.”
The DIA Patient Advocate Fellow Program is designed to develop, strengthen and support patient collaborations with policymakers, industry representatives, public health authorities, academia, and other health care stakeholders. By increasing knowledge and understanding of issues central to patient-centered health care, fellows are better equipped to integrate their voice and respond to changes in drug development and health care delivery.
During the meeting, DIA attendees are invited to meet the 20 patient fellows at booth #1721 and follow #DIA2015Patients to learn more about the DIA Patient Advocate Fellowship Program.
